Yamaguchi Akira (山口憲)

Akira YAMAGUCHI (1948 -) is a noh costume researcher. He is from Kyoto City. He graduated from the Faculty of Business Administration, Ritsumeikan University. He is Director of the Yamaguchi Noh Costume Research Institute.

He started to study noh costumes in 1972 and has engaged in noh costume restoration and exhibitions. He also hosts exhibitions inside and outside Japan, and publishes his study results.

In 1995, he received the 2nd Nihon Dentobunka Shinko-sho (Japanese Traditional Culture Promotion Award) from the Japan Arts Foundation.

In 2004, he received The Foreign Minister's Award for introducing Japanese culture by exhibiting noh costumes in Europe and the US.
